A Case of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia

Abstract

Hemorrhagic complication constitutes a major problem of heparin treatment and the risk of major bleeding has been reported to range from 1-3396. Bleeding may result not only from overdosage thrombocytopenia
Thrombocytopenia may complicate both intravenous and low dose subcutaneous he¡þparin therapy and is thought to be brought about by aggregation of platelet by hep¡þarin.
Here, the authors present a case of heparin induced thrombocytopenia with retro¡þperitoneal bleeding during the treatment for cerebral thrombosis.
The fall in the platelet count was progressive and the lowest platelet count(55000 /ul) was found five days¢¥ after intravenous administration on a dose of 20,000u per day for 3 days.
The platelet count returned to normal 5 days after the treatment was discontinued.
