A Case of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia

Abstract

|
Hemorrhagic complication constitutes a major problem of heparin treatment and the risk of major bleeding has been reported to range from 1-3396. Bleeding may result not only from overdosage thrombocytopenia
Thrombocytopenia may complicate both intravenous and low dose subcutaneous he￢parin therapy and is thought to be brought about by aggregation of platelet by hep￢arin.
Here, the authors present a case of heparin induced thrombocytopenia with retro￢peritoneal bleeding during the treatment for cerebral thrombosis.
The fall in the platelet count was progressive and the lowest platelet count(55000 /ul) was found five days´ after intravenous administration on a dose of 20,000u per day for 3 days.
The platelet count returned to normal 5 days after the treatment was discontinued.
